Álvaro Pérez Betancourt



   

 

Anthropologist (UCV) and filmmaker, MA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, in a combined program of Anthropology and documentary. He served as a researcher at FUNRES (Foundation for the rescue of venezuelan documentaries), where he made a catalog of ethnographic films, filmed in indigenous areas of Venezuela. He has been a curator at the “Los Angeles Film Festival 2013”, Curator of the documentary series Images, sounds and voices of the jungle (Caracas, Venezuela). He has produced and directed the following documentaries: Rómulo Betancourt, builder and defender of democracy in America (Caracas, 2010), Cela & Luzer (Los Angeles, 2005), Los Muñequitos de Matanzas Live in LA (Los Angeles, 2002), Nacientes, los viajes de Inga Goetz a las fuentes del Orinoco (Venezuela, 1998), Voces de los Orishas (Havana, Cuba, 1993), The Dancing Devils of Chuao, (Aragua, Venezuela , 1984). Awards: “The People's Choice Awards” Festival “Global Africa Film Festival” (Oakland, California, 1991-92) and American Anthropological Assn, (Los Angeles, California, 1990) for Voces de los Orishas.
